The Block fans aren’t too pleased with this year’s shenanigans after noticing multiple teams have been hit with compliance issues after they’ve begun their builds, leading to massive delays and a waste of materials and money.
This article contains The Block spoilers. Proceed with caution.
We’re smack bang in the middle of one of the biggest weeks of The Block: Landscaping Week.
And while it’s an important (and fun) time for our teams to bash out a massive selling point of their homes, a couple of our teams have faced some setbacks due to compliance issues.
Earlier this week, Victoria’s Em and Ben were forced to rip up a shit ton of concrete from their yard after it was deemed non-compliant and too steep.

On Thursday night, Western Australia’s Britt and Taz were also left scrambling after their outdoor fireplace was also deemed non-compliant, as it needed to be a certain height above the roof. However, the OG materials planned for the fireplace wouldn’t be stable enough at that new height.
As a result, the duo had to tear down the fireplace and redo it with bricks, causing more delays.
So who approved the fireplace in the first place?#theblock

Their fireplace kerfuffle comes days after their shed — AKA their “speakeasy” — was also deemed non-compliant even though Britt had claimed the designs were approved ahead of completion.

With all these issues, both teams have faced some major delays ahead of the room reveal and auction day.
Fans react to the multiple compliance issues on The Block
With all these issues, fans are growing angry with those who are in charge of The Block builds as well as Foreman Dan, who’s supposed to help guide our teams with their designs. Others have also pointed out how these compliance issues have led to a waste of materials.
#theblock I feel like this season has had more setbacks that were literally out of the contestants control and were purely on architecture and planning approval, than other seasons.

So much wasted time and money this week – it’s a bad look #theblock

This isn’t a good look for those in charge of the build. Too much wastage going on this year. #TheBlock

Again, after it’s been installed, it’s not compliant. What a waste of materials.

Happened way too often this season. Really need to improve in this area. #TheBlock
Usually when people build they plan their renovation ahead of time and have a builder etc check for compliance issues.

Dan etc have failed their duty of care to the teams. #TheBlock
So many compliance issues on #TheBlock this year.

They’ve really dropped the ball somewhere- I think it’s the preference for drama over building. pic.twitter.com/mKd2F7lbPJ

What is the point of the builders, planners, site managers…… pic.twitter.com/W3q879QoZE
Look, I have no intention of joining The Block, but honestly, if I had completed a build that was supposedly approved only for it to be torn down again over compliance issues, I would be screaming and crying in my trailer.
