Call of Duty’s hugely successful port of the classic Black Ops 2 is in jeopardy thanks to a hacker who is running rampant on its servers.
This hacker is not merely aimbotting or wall-hacking. Instead, the prolific pain in the ass known as “C isn’t Sharp” is resetting people’s stats, instantly ranking them up to Master Prestige, or completely bricking accounts so they can no longer play.

This is making for some very interesting encounters in matchmaking, as shown in the video above by streamer Timthetatman, who fell victim to the hacker. Before he even realized what was happening, the hacker wrecked the whole lobby, and it’s apparently been happening for several days now.
Considering the original BO2 experiences on PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 have been mostly unplayable for years thanks to hacked lobbies, the concern with a years-old game and its infrastructure making its way back like this appears to be justified.
But given that the BO2 port was literally the most popular game on PlayStation in recent weeks, even dethroning the omnipresent Fortnite and Roblox, this feels like a rather urgent situation for Activision and its studios. The game’s multiplayer becoming unplayable just a few weeks later is a big issue, no matter how entertaining clips like the ones below may be.
Judging by discussion on social media, this is not the hacker’s first foray into such questionable activities. If this is the case and they have been causing issues on CoD for a few years now, then I wouldn’t be surprised to see Activision take legal action as it has been doing of late.

I’ve reached out to Activision PR for a statement on the matter, but for now, be careful if you’re playing BO2 on PS5. And if you see the funky-colored name in your lobby, back out as soon as you can before your account gets compromised.
Update on July 30 at 2:35pm CT: Activision acknowledged that it is “investigating solutions for instances where accounts have been set to incorrect Prestige levels,” which appears to be how most accounts are getting bricked.
