The details behind Giovani Lo Celso's injury that have left Spurs fans fuming

Spurs' summer arrival Giovani Lo Celso is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a hip injury while on international duty with Argentina.

The midfielder was forced from the field in the 53rd minute of the international friendly against Chile on Friday evening, at first the player eased concerns insisting that the injury was "nothing to worry about".

However, a statement released by Tottenham on Tuesday evening confirmed that Lo Celso had returned to the club and will be out of action for several weeks.

"Giovani Lo Celso has returned early to Hotspur Way after being withdrawn from the Argentina squad due to a hip injury," the statement read.

"The attacking midfielder sustained the injury during his national team’s match against Chile. He will now undergo a period of rehabilitation and is expected to return to training with the first team towards the end of October."

The news has not gone down well with Spurs fans.

The game in which Lo Celso was injured was an international friendly against Chile, which was played in Los Angeles. The game ended with 10 yellow cards, and even before having to go off, the midfielder took a blow to the ankle after a poor challenge.

The injury has left Tottenham fans wondering why the club let Lo Celso, who was not yet deemed to be fully match fit, go on international duty to play a friendly.

Here is some of the reaction from Spurs fans.

Lo Celso could miss up to 10 first team games, including the  Premier League match against Liverpool and the opening games of the Champions League group stage.
