The 'bingo' money challenge that can save you up to £1,400 a year

If you recoil at the thought of having to save money, you're not alone.

However, a new challenge has now emerged which has been created with the aim of making it easier for those who struggle to save to put cash away.

And the best bit is, it takes inspiration from one of the UK's favourite pastimes - bingo.

The challenge was originally designed by the Metro , who created a handy 'weekly savings fund' card with 52 squares - each containing a different number. Basically, there's one square for each week of the year.

The idea of the challenge is to pick a different square each week, and put away the amount of money that's in the square you've chosen.

The squares contain quantities ranging from £1 to £52, so you can save as you wish, and you can put away large quantities when you can (like after payday), and commit to smaller quantities when you're struggling, or around big events like birthdays and Christmas.

To make sure you're doing the challenge as efficiently as possible, Metro suggests picking a day of the week where you commit to putting the money aside, and sticking to that day.

What is the 1p challenge?

If you manage to do it for an entire year and tick all of the amounts off, you should have a very healthy £1378 saved at the end of it.

Best of luck!
