The billowing smoke and huge flames from deliberate grass fire in Swansea Valley

Fire crews were today at the scene of a large grass fire in a Swansea Valley, which was started deliberately.

Pictures and video footage show flames roaring through the sky as firefighters try to tame it.

The fire started at about 11.23am on Thursday, April 9 on grassland at Mynydd Gellionnen, Clydach, Pontardawe.

The fire service previously appealed to the public to  help them stop preventable fires, which increase strain on emergency services during the   coronavirus   pandemic.

A spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue said: "At 11:23am today, Thursday 9th April 2020, crews from Morriston and Amman Valley attended a deliberately lit grass fire on Mynydd Gellionnen, Clydach, Pontardawe.

"Approximately 4 hectares of grass and scrub land was burnt.

"Firefighters fought the fire using beaters, blowers and a hose reel jet. The Fire Service left the incident at 2:48pm."
