The bike podcast: Rebecca Romero, electric bikes and the Etape Caledonia

This month Helen Pidd travels to Pitlochry in Scotland to take part in the Etape Caledonia, an 81-mile sportive through the stunning lochs and hills of Highland Perthshire. This event was ruined last year by a saboteur armed with carpet tacks, but will this year be greeted more favourably by locals? Helen investigates, with the help of legendary time triallist Graeme Obree and the Olympic rower James Cracknell.

She also takes a spin with Olympic athlete Rebecca Romero, who is leading the Deloitte's Ride Across Britain from John O'Groats to Land's End from 12-20 June. Romero - or Becs as she likes to be called - is currently trying to decide where to go next in her sporting career after both of her Olympic events were scrapped. Expect to see her contending the road time trial in London in 2012.

Also on this month's podcast, Peter Walker takes a roster of Guardian reporters on to the streets of London to try out the latest range of
electric bikes (kindly lent by Electric Bike Sales).
