Christian Pulisic has said that the most challenging aspect of his time at Chelsea so far has been learning about the added defensive responsibilities required in the Premier League compared to his time at Borussia Dortmund.
The attacking midfielder, who was signed for £58million at the beginning of the year, has created two assists in five competitive appearances and worked hard out of possession.
However, speaking at a press conference before the United States' friendly against Mexico in New Jersey on Friday night, the 20-year-old admitted that the pace of every game has left him a little surprised.
“It’s everything I hoped it would be and more,” he said. “The speed, it’s very intense. The games are very intense. Every single game I’ve played so far has had a new challenge.”
Asked what the greatest test so far has been, Pulisic added: "Learning to help more with the defensive side of things has been a really good challenge for me."
He was also full of praise for his new head coach, saying that Lampard's approach to young players has helped him settle in quickly.
"Frank’s a great guy and he’s helped me so much and he understands where I’m coming from," Pulisic said. "He’s done a really good job and helped me, teaching us, especially a lot of the younger guys on the team.”
The US also play Uruguay in a friendly at Busch Stadium, St Louis in the early hours of Wednesday morning, meaning a later return to London for Pulisic than his European team-mates.
