Describe your role in one sentence: As chief executive of Medway hospital foundation trust, I am responsible for ensuring the best quality of clinical services and an excellent experience for all our patients.

Why did you want to work in healthcare? The reward of helping complex organisations to deliver excellent care to support people at often the most vulnerable times in their lives.

How do you want to see the sector change in the next five years? Healthcare needs to become more ‘joined up’ from a patient perspective and health systems need to be more integrated. This will require significant investment and further development of integrated information systems to nebula this change to be achieved.

My proudest achievement at work was ... empowering and supporting frontline clinicians to lead transformational change.

The most difficult thing I’ve dealt with is ... dealing with entrenched problems which require rapid solutions in some cases.

The biggest challenge facing the NHS is ... the accelerating demand of an ageing population in an era now of more restricted public spending.

The people I work with are ... inspirational and totally committed to do their best for patients.

I do what I do because ... I believe I play a part in supporting clinicians in providing top quality care.

At work I am always learning that ... through empowering people they generate brilliant ideas for improving services.

The one thing always on my mind at work is ... patients!

If I could go back ten years and meet my former self I’d tell them ... to be less directive and more consultative.

If I could meet my future self I’d expect them to be ... retired!

What is the best part of your job? Working with the rich diversity of talent in one of the most complex organisations that exist – an acute hospital.

What is the worst part of your job? Bureaucracy and managing upwards

What makes you smile? Positive stories from patients

What keeps you awake at night? Concerns about poor quality and safety
