If you’re starting to come a little unhinged from the lack of basketball at any level, there may be some hope in the near-term future on the way.
The popular three-on-three basketball league “The Big3” plans to hold a preseason tournament featuring quarantined players who have all tested negative for the novel coronavirus pandemic behind the suspension of league activities since March 11th, reports Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
The league, founded by hip-hop legend Ice Cube of N.W.A. fame along with entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz, plans to keep 16-22 players isolated in Los Angeles, California who have all tested negative for the virus.
Using a reality-show style format, some of the players of note who could be featured in the tournament include Zach Randolph, Greg Oden and Joe Johnson, according to Haynes.
The Big3 have reportedly been in contact with several networks about airing the series, and may even garner international interest given the global dearth of live sports for many self-quarantining households around the world.
A large home would house players isolated for their and everyone’s safety, with any player who leaves at any time being removed from the premises and disqualified, with participating players’ daily lives in the quarantine being documented as part of the attraction.
The production crew would be nearby, but separate from the players, presumably for added safety.
