The big selection call for Eddie Howe in his first Newcastle United game in charge

Eddie Howe is facing a huge selection call in his first game in charge of Newcastle United today against Brentford.

The recently-appointed Magpies boss - who will miss today's game due to a positive Covid test - watched on from the stands at the Amex Stadium as Karl Darlow kept Brighton & Hove Albion at bay for the most part on the South Coast.

But now Howe must decide whether Darlow should continue in goal or whether the man previously deemed as first choice in Martin Dubravka returns.

He said: "Dubravka played during the international break for Slovakia.

"Is he 100% fit? That remains to be seen.

"That was his first game in a long, long time, so I’ve got a tough call to make there."

Dubravka missed all of pre-season with a foot injury and had been missing in action for 69 days after a foot operation.

Howe will run late checks on Miguel Almiron after he returned from international duty with Paraguay after their 0-0 draw in Colombia concluded their failed World Cup qualification bid.

Howe said: "All the boys except from Almirón are back from international duty so I'm looking forward to seeing him.

"Dúbravka played in midweek but it was his first game in a long time so I have a tough call to make.

"We have Dummett out injured but everyone else is OK."
