The Big Grill festival comes under fire after sections of Herbert Park left damaged

The Big Grill festival has come under fire from a popular musician who's not impressed by how a Dublin Park was left after it.

Last week a large section Herbert Park in Ballsbridge hosted the four-day festival which finished up last Sunday.

Photos taken by The Waterboys musician Mike Scott shows large patches of grass covered in marks and tracks.

Other pictures show areas of grass worn down as well as other patches.

Taking to Twitter, Scott took aim at festival organisers saying: "Herbert Park after The Big Grill Dublin.

"The Big Grill lasts four days, closes half the park to local users for a week, and the damage left will take till next Spring to heal."

Dublin Live has contacted The Big Grill and Dublin City Council has for comment meanwhile local Local labour politician Dermot Lacey says DCC may need to weigh up the pros and cons of holding private events in the park.

The councillor told Dublin Live: "Donnybrook Scout Camp held an event there about two years ago and the place was left absolutely spotless afterwards.

"Not a blade of grass was turned or noticed.

"The Big Grill wasn't like that at all. If we're going to use Herbert Park for commercial events they to benefit from it and I'm not really seeing that.

"I won't rush to judge until I see all of the facts. If the festival is just being held to take in money then I'd be against it.

"If it raised money that's going into identifiable projects within the park then you can weigh up the pros and cons.

"If we're going to continue to have events there then there may be a need to have much tighter controls.

"There is a big local opposition to parts of the park being privatised for periods of time.

"Some commercial activity isn't harmful in my point of view, but if the costs outweigh the benefits then we have to reconsider."
