The big dilemma facing Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi against Millwall

The sooner Nottingham Forest are able to put a poor performance against Middlesbrough well and truly behind them, the better.

And they will get their chance on Friday night, when Millwall visit the City Ground.

The Reds were well below par in the north east, with only a late goal from Lewis Grabban rescuing a point and a 2-2 draw, following a lapse in concentration after Ryan Yates’ opener.

Throw into the mix a few injury problems, and it leaves head coach Sabri Lamouchi with something of a selection dilemma when the Lions come to town.

More than half of the team picks itself (barring any other injuries), with the back five and one of the midfield spaces all but sewn up.

Goalkeeper Brice Samba, a back four of Matty Cash, Tobias Figueiredo, Joe Worrall and Yuri Ribeiro, with Ben Watson ahead of them are pretty much set in stone at the moment.

On the whole, they’ve been solid defensively and made Forest tough to beat; there’s no need to start tinkering.

Likewise, starting Grabban up front is virtually a given - unless the manager feels he is in need of a rest.

After getting back among the goals, though, it would be a bold call to leave him out.

Nottingham Forest's Samba Sow against West Brom (Dan Westwell)

It’s that middle bit of the pitch where things are a little less certain.

If Samba Sow is 100 percent fit, there’s little doubt he will step in alongside Watson in the holding role.

If not, then Lamouchi has a big decision to make.

Tiago Silva could have stepped in, but now faces a few weeks out of action.

Ryan Yates has started the last two games and been reasonably solid. He doesn’t seem to be particularly popular among fans, but perhaps that is because he’s more graft than glamour.

The dilemma for the Reds boss is whether playing Yates alongside Watson at home would be a little too defensive.

Alfa Semedo came on to replace Yates against Cardiff City and added a bit more forward threat - although he then wasn’t exactly at his best on Monday night.

John Bostock was then brought on for Yates at the Riverside and did a decent job, contributing to an improved closing 10 minutes for the visitors.

But he’s seen barely any game time in recent months, so did he do enough to earn a starting spot?

There is also a question mark about who should play in the attacking three behind Grabban.

Joe Lolley and Sammy Ameobi seem likely to retain their spots, but there is another decision to be made about who joins them.

Semedo is also an option to play that more advanced role, while Lolley could take on the No.10 job and Adama Diakhaby, or maybe even Alex Mighten, take up post on the wing.

Plenty of supporters want Joao Carvalho to get his chance in the first XI.

The club record signing did well enough when he came on the other day, looking bright in the final minutes.

He has bags of talent, but Lamouchi has stated several times that he’s waiting for more from the Portuguese.

So the big question is whether Carvalho showed that in his cameo appearance against Middlesbrough.

Predicted Forest XI: Samba, Cash, Figueiredo, Worrall, Ribeiro, Watson, Yates, Ameobi, Carvalho, Lolley, Grabban.
