The Big Dig archaeology festival to launch in Falkirk

The Big Dig archaeology festival is set to launch in Falkirk this week.

It will begin on Friday September 3 to coincide with Scottish Archaeology Month 2021.

Great Place Falkirk will be hosting various events throughout the festival for people of all ages to get involved in.

Big Dig Denny will be first to take place between Friday 3 and Sunday 12 and will be led by Professor of Archaeology Geoff Bailey.

Budding explorers will be on the hunt for Victoria-era nobs' cottages or 'but and ben' houses on Milton Row.

These homes were built for new workers who were coming to the Herbertshire Printworks during a wage strike.

Then, families will be encouraged to take part in The Big Garden Dig on Sundays between Sunday August 12 and Sunday August 26.

Here, they will be asked to dig a small archaeological test pit in your own back garden and record what the small treasures they find.
