The big coeffcient factor in Rangers clash with Galatasaray as golden Champions League boost looms into view

Rangers could put Scotland in sight of a guaranteed Champions League spot if they beat Galatasaray at Ibrox next Thursday.

Turkey currently sit 11th in the co-efficient table with the top 11 being awarded an automatic place in Europe’s premier competition.

Scotland lie 12th, just one place behind, and could find it easier to pick up points in the Europa League group stage if they get there - with a Rangers win meaning Turkey would only have one team left in Europe - Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.

Istanbul will also be bottom seeds in the elite event and face a difficult group, so picking up points should prove far trickier for the Turkish champions.

It should be much easier for Celtic and Rangers to rack up points in the Europa League group stage over Istanbul in the Champions League should they both qualify.

Initially the Turks started with five which means all their co-efficient points get divided by the same number while Scotland began with four and have two left in.

And if they can stay in, a major boost will loom into view.

Celtic take on Bosnian side Sarajevo in a game many would expect them to win but the tougher test will likely be at Ibrox when Rangers take on Galatasaray.

Other countries can overtake Scotland as well with Austria currently sitting in 10th and the likes of Ukraine and Cyprus will also be pushing for it.

But victory for Rangers would give our league a brilliant chance to end up above Turkey with Scotland currently just 0.675 ranking points behind.

With each win worth 0.25, if Steven Gerrard's men emerge as victorious, our teams would only need two more wins from this season to climb above the Turks.

And with 12 games in the Europa League guaranteed, you'd have to think there's a strong chance of that happening.

It would be a huge financial boon to the winners of of the Scottish Premiership, with a cash injection of more than £30million raked in for taking part in the elite competition.
