
A man works at Honda Reizo Co.'s ice-making plant in Taishi, Hyogo Prefecture, as the production of ice for chipped ice and iced coffee is now at its peak with summer approaching. The plant uses filtered underground water to produce about 840 icicles per day, each about 1 meter high and weighing about 100 kilograms. During the freezing process, the water in the center of the ice pillar is removed to eliminate impurities and increase its transparency.
