The big change Man Utd plan to make to former Swansea City star Daniel James' game

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he plans to use Daniel James all across the front three this season.

The youngster, who signed from Swansea City last month in a £15million deal, made his name in South Wales by terrorising full-backs on the left-hand flank.

Working well with Bersant Celina and Matt Grimes, the winger liked the ball in front of him and constantly cut in on his right foot to unleash shots from the edge of the box.

He was occasionally used in a false nine position by Graham Potter, but his most effective position was out wide, and specifically on the left.

But that maybe about to change.

In his first outing for United James impressed, earning a man-of-the-match award for his efforts.

And Solskjaer says he has a plan for the Hull product.

“Yeah, Dan can play all across the front line,” he said . “Obviously more right and left wing, but through the middle as well.

“Then again, it’s about finding a relationship that works, sometimes you want the full-back to join the attack and maybe you don’t want a winger hugging the touchline.

“We’ll just have to find the balance between width and players in between, so I’m sure you’ll see him both right and left throughout the season.

“Can’t tell you what I’m thinking.”

James admitted himself after his debut that versatility would be key to his development at Old Trafford.

Asked about his favoured position following the 2-0 win over Perth Glory, he said: "For me that left position was always my favourite but I like being versatile and playing anywhere across the front three providing I’m in the team.

"It’s important you’ve got to play all three and our forward players can play that. Antony (Martial) played No 9 today and it’s good for us all to interlink and we swapped a few times and it’s good to play all three."

James and United faced Leeds United today.
