The Big Brother Housemates Have Been Caught Making Ableist Comments On The Livestream

Big Brother ableist comments

Big Brother might be all-seeing and all-knowing, but sadly he’s not always able to stop the housemates from making offensive comments and they’ve been caught out on the livestream multiple times.

First, there were racist remarks that were made at the start of the season, now, viewers have clocked several instances of ableist comments.

In one scene, Conor — who has Tourette syndrome — expresses his frustration with Holly telling him that she understands him because she knows people who have Down Syndrome, telling her BF Colin that it makes him feel “horrific”.

In other scenes, it appears that the staffers manning the livestream have been able to cut off the livestream to stop offensive comments from going through, such as one moment which was picked up on Reddit where Conor allegedly made an ableist joke and the livestream cuts off.

In the thread, punters called out the continuous ableist comments that have been made by the housemates, including Coco allegedly using the word “spaz”.

“The producers of this show fell short on who they chose as housemates,” one person wrote on TikTok.

“Friendly reminder Holly also called people ‘downies’,” another viewer pointed out.

“It’s called empathy, something Holly doesn’t have,” a third fan wrote.

Other countries have already scrapped their livestreams due to the difficulty of filtering out offensive comments. Big Brother in the US, UK and Canada have all copped backlash for airing iffy remarks on their feeds — with some even axing 24/7 streams altogether to dodge the PR nightmare.

“This is exactly why the livestream disappeared for years,” one source told PEDESTRIAN.TV. “You cannot control ‘casual racism’ on a reality show. You just can’t. And the audience is recording everything. The editing delay is not protecting anyone.”

In a statement to PEDESTRIAN.TV on the livestream, a Ten spokesperson said: “Viewers are loving Ten’s Big Brother 24/7 livestream. The content strikes the balance between being entertaining and juicy, while still protecting audiences and housemates. Aussies have been obsessed with the show, the housemates, and the access.”

It comes after a NSFW moment was caught on the livestream, and the identity of the Big Brother voice was revealed.
