The six-bedroom house where Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast was filmed has been listed for sale on Rightmove, at an asking price of £5.7 million.
The property, which is listed by a Hackney-based estate agent, is on Dace Road in east London just a stone’s throw away from the 2012 Olympic park and stadium.
Between 1992 and 2002, the weekday morning show featured a host of presenters including Chris Evans, Gaby Roslin, Paula Yates, Zoe Ball, Denise van Outen, and puppets Zig and Zag, with a mix of news, weather, interviews and audience phone-ins.
The Big Breakfast was devised by Yates’ husband, Bob Geldof and at its height reached two million viewers per show. It was the UK’s highest-rated breakfast television programme.
Unusually for a television show, the entire thing was filmed within the Dace-Road property, which was historically three lock keeper’s cottages for the nearby river Lea, and was known on the show simply as “The House”.
Different segments used various locations around the house, including Yates “on the bed” in the upstairs bedrooms, Evan’s “crunch” with Zig and Zag in the bathrooms and an outside workshop where Johnny Vaughan hosted “From Me Shed, Son”.
As well as the large house, which has now been renovated over three floors, there is a garden, roof terrace and swimming pool on half an acre of land.
When the show finished filming in 2002 the house was sold for around £800,000. But a fire later that year meant it needed renovation.
Today the property is worth six times that and has a famous neighbour - the 2012 London games stadium, which can be seen from the back garden - but of course had not been built when the show last aired.
The house, which was listed on 19 October, is just 0.4 miles from Hackney Wick overground station and 0.7 miles from Stratford International.
Channel 4 announced earlier this year it would be bringing The Big Breakfast back for a one-off episode, hosted by comedian Mo Gilligan.
