As much as we’ve tried to fight it, winter is unfortunately in full swing — which means it’s time to talk winter bedsheets. And if your house is as freezing as mine (thanks, shitty insulation), you’re probably reading this while sitting on your couch, puffer jacket zipped to the top, fingers freezing and struggling to scroll.
Because our houses unfortunately fail at keeping us warm, it means we’ve gotta pull out all the stops when it comes to winter bedding. There’s nothing quite like burying yourself under the covers after a long, dreary day, snuggling into the sheets and diving into a good book or doom scroll.
But with so many different bedding options and materials out there, it can be hard to know which one will help you achieve the best night’s rest possible. That’s where I come in! And what makes my advice trustworthy? I, dear friends, am the self-certified queen of bedrotting.

What is the Best Winter Bedsheets Material?
Unfortunately, this isn’t a straight answer. We’re all different, which means that our winter bedsheet needs are all different — just like mattresses. While I tend to overheat because my partner is a fkin furnace, you might run cold and pile a million blankets on in order to keep warm.
However, there are a few classic go-tos that won’t do you wrong. These are:
- Flannelette bedsheets
- Cotton bedsheets
- Linen bedsheets
- Silk bedsheets
Let’s delve into which one suits your sleeping style, shall we?

If You Run Cold: Flannelette Bedsheets
Flannelette makes for the best winter bedsheets — it’s a classic. If you run your hands over the fabric, you can feel that it’s fuzzier than your regular cotton, linen or bamboo bedding. This is because the brushed fibres in flannelette sheets trap air, helping to create insulation and retain body heat.
These are my favourite bed sheets to use when I’m sleeping solo. They keep me toasty warm, and the soft fuzziness makes them perfect to snuggle into. But beware, leaving your bed in the morning is extra hard.

If You Run Hot: Cotton Bedsheets
On the other end of the scale, you’ve got people like me. As much as I’d love to be a matching flannelette sheets and pjs kinda gal, my boyfriend really said no. So, I opt for cotton bedding instead. While warm, unlike its brushed counterpart, cotton sheets are more breathable and have moisture-wicking properties. This means air can circulate better, helping prevent overheating.

If Your Body Can’t Decide: Linen Bedsheets
I know you’ve probably raised your eyebrows in scepticism and are thinking, “this girl doesn’t know what she’s talking about, linen is a summer fabric.” Well, dear friend, allow me to enlighten you.
Linen is a breathable fabric that wicks away moisture and lets the air circulate, helping to regulate your body temperature throughout the night. So, while it keeps you cool in summer, it’ll also keep you warm in winter — minus the clamminess that can come along with flannelette sheets if they’re too hot for you.

If You Love Your Beauty Sleep: Silk Bedsheets
Now we’re talking, baby. This is your chance to channel your inner Blair Waldorf, drifting off to dreamland on a bed fit for the Upper East Side. While silk bedsheets are quite the splurge, they offer a wealth of benefits to justify the price tag in your girl math scramblings.
Firstly, silk is a natural hypoallergen, meaning it repels bedbugs, dust mites, pollen and airborne allergens that might upset your peaceful sleep. It’s also breathable and temperature regulating, keeping you warm in winter without overheating.
Silk’s also known for its skin and hair benefits, including maintaining hydrated skin and hair, preventing frizz and breakage. It absorbs less oils, dust and dirt, which is why it’s great for people with skin conditions like acne or rosacea.
