The Best Wines For Your Thanksgiving Table

In our family, Thanksgiving is the ultimate indulgence, brimming with platters of food and a table filled with the people we love the most. The holiday gets even better when dinner is paired with several amazing bottles of wine. Below is a list of some terrific vintages to go with your feast.

Pre-dinner wines:

A sparkling treat

Zonin Prosecco Cuvee 1821—It’s a celebration! So why not start off with a glass of bubbly? As your guests start nibbling on appetizers or wander into the kitchen for a peak of what’s to come, hand them a glass of Zonin’s Prosecco Cuvee. It is dry with notes of almonds, fresh citrus, and an aromatic finish. ($12.99).

A perfect holiday rosé

2017 Long Meadow Ranch Rosé of Pinot Noir Anderson Valley–Another great way to start the meal is with a glass of this high quality, dry Rosé. Enjoy a wine that has just the right amount of acid, loads of fruit, and lower alcohol than most reds so you can pace your indulgence. ($25).

Main course: a special red

For the red wine connoisseurs

2014 Charles Krug Family Reserve Generations–This Cab-dominant Bordeaux blend from California’s oldest winery is truly stunning in its craftsmanship. Estate-grown fruit mingles for 20 months in new French oak barrels to produce a wine abundant with aromas of black cherry, coffee bean, and crisp crème brûlée. This bold red works well with any main course, indulgent sauces, and creamy gratins. ($60)

Main course—splurge with this white

A perfect addition to the main course

Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia–Ornellaia’s vineyards, located in the heart of Bolgheri, benefit from cool sea winds and a longer ripening period, which lends balance to all components of the grapes and helps the fruit maintain a firm structure and great finesse. With its superb structure, rich, full-bodied palate, and well-balanced acidity, this vintage is the perfect wine to toast your turkey with. ($75).

Main course–less of a splurge

An indulgent sauvignon blanc

Dos Almas Sauvignon Blanc ReservaIf some of your guests tend to go for seconds or thirds of both food and wine, this crisp Sauvignon Blanc is the ideal main course bottle. This refreshing, versatile Sauvignon Blanc from the Casablanca Valley in Chile contains notes of lime, grapefruit, pineapple, and pear which are complemented by minerals and herbs. ($15)

Dessert—end on a high note

And a port to end the meal

Ramos Pinto Quinta do Bom Retiro 20-Year Tawny (non-vintage)—The ideal way to end the meal is with a special port. This one comes from one of the oldest vineyards in the Douro region and has notes of notes of citrus, roasted hazelnuts, cinnamon, coffee and caramel. It is the perfect end to the meal and mirrors the flavors in pumpkin, apple and pecan pie. ($70).

Happy Thanksgiving!
