The best ways to take advantage of the brighter evenings in Dublin

With brighter evenings comes a sense that the days are longer and therefore, full of more opportunities for enriching and enjoyable experiences.

Although we don't actually get any extra hours on top of our usual 24, most would argue that when the evenings get brighter, our late hours get way better.

Here are nine things to do in Dublin with the brighter evenings.

Canal Walks

Dublin's Grand Canal and Royal Canal make for some lovely evening strolls, whether it's towards home from the office or getting some fresh air after working from home.

Starting at Drumcondra to make your way down the Royal Canal, you will find plenty of spots for coffee and snacks around Phibsborough.

Meanwhile, Dublin's Grand Canal starts from Grand Canal Dock. If you're beginning your walk here, we recommend heading to Nutbutter for coffee and treat as it opens into the late evening.

Following the canal, you will also find some lovely spots in Portobello.

Spin out to Malahide for the park and Estuary

If it's the sunset you're chasing, Malahide Beach is a wonderful place to find it. The car park for the beach is just behind the dunes and from there, you can walk the grand stretch out towards Portmarnock for some gorgeous evening coastal views.

Malahide Castle and Gardens is also a treasure trove of trails that take you through woodland and over fields.

Ardgillan Castle

Ardgillan is perhaps one of the most underrated parks in County Dublin.

Full to the brim of picturesque green spaces and hills that overlook the coast, it makes for a lovely hour or two as the sun starts to say goodnight.

Walk up Killiney Hill

If we're going to talk about views, we simply cannot leave out Killiney Hill. As the sun slowly drops over South Dublin, this is one of the best places to witness that happening.

Great South Wall

Although central, walking the Great South Walk out to Poolbeg Lighthouse takes you right out of the city into Dublin Bay, offering you a unique perspective of Dublin as you look back at the city after it unwinds following a busy day.

Walk among the dunes at Dollymount

Dollymount Strand, with its vast expanse of sand dunes, makes for some wonderful exploration, during which you are likely to come meet very excitable dogs on their evening walkies.

Portmarnock to Malahide Walk

Portmarnock's Velvet Strand offers a huge stretch of walking opportunities. But if you decide to turn the other way and walk towards Malahide, you'll find a lovely coastal trail that takes you along the nooks and crannies of this part of Dublin's north coast.

Swords Estuary

Underrated perhaps the most appropriate description to use here, although words like "beautiful" and "scenic" will also do this walk justice.

Walking along the estuary towards Malahide at sunset is a fantastic day to unwind after a busy day and with brighter evenings, it is something that many will choose to take advantage of far more often.

Howth Head Cliff Walk

Of course, Howth Head Cliff Walk is one of the top activities when the days become longer. Closing down the computer, hopping in the car and heading to what is perhaps one of the best viewpoints in not only Dublin but in Ireland, is arguably unmatched.
