The best value for money World Book Day costumes from Asda, Tesco, Lild, Aldi and more

World Book Day - dedicated to literature, illustrations and reading - is less than a week away.

Organised by a charity of the same name, the annual event was created to celebrate the wonderful world of books.

As always supermarkets and a select few high street stores are selling amazing costumes especially for the day, Thursday, March 5.

We've rounded up the best-value costumes you can buy now.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's clothing brand Tu has more than 130 costumes to choose from online.

Its The Very Hungry Caterpillar costume is particularly adorable.

Priced at £14, the red and green outfit has a hood and removable cotton fruit-shaped decorations that you can move around.

Matalan

From little wizards and witches to Marvel favourites and Matilda, whatever your kids are into you can get them kitted out this World Book Day at Matalan.

The store has a host of costumes for the literary celebration on March 5 and beyond that won't break the bank, with Harry Potter costumes from £16, Matilda dresses from £15 and Disney princesses from £12.

Asda

Asda currently has 25 per cent off its World Book Day range. Shoppers can find costumes in store and online from £5. The Asda website has broken down the costumes into different sections, making it easier to look at what's on offer. There's a Roald Dalh section, a Harry Potter one, a Disney Princess section and a Harry Potter one, too.

This BFG outfit (£14) comes with large ears, a green pair of trousers and a T-shirt and waistcoat.

Lidl

The budget supermarket has a small selection of costumes priced at £6.99 each.

Choose from Spider-Man, Alice in Wonderland, Tinkerbell , Red Riding Hood, Harry Potter and Peter Pan.

These are all in-store purchases only.

Argos

Get costumes for £14 at Argos. Choose from fancy dress items from kids' classics such as The Gruffalo, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, Matilda and more.

If you order before 2pm you'll be eligible for next day delivery. Alternatively you can order it online and pick it in store the same day, if it's in stock at your nearest Argos.

Tesco

        

Tesco is selling its World Book Day costumes in stores only. It includes a Where's Wally outfit, a Gryffindor cape and Mary Poppins and Little Red Riding hood costumes.

Prices start from £10.

Aldi

(Aldi)

 

Aldi is selling Dennis the Menace, Horrid Henry, Mary Poppins, Rapunzel, Cinderella and Harry Potter costumes.

All are priced at £9.99 each.
