Jacob Rees-Mogg slammed on Twitter for lying down during Brexit debate in Parliament

Jacob Rees-Mogg's lazy posture during a Brexit debate has been met with both anger and mockery online.

The Conservative MP for North East Somerset was spotted slouching across several seats as a debate was held over a possible No Deal Brexit in the House of Commons.

The overly-relaxed body language drew criticism from various politicians, including Green MP Caroline Lucas.

Calling him out in the House of Commons, she said: "The leader of the house who I have to say, his body language throughout this evening has been so contemptuous of this House and of the people.

"The leader of the House has been spread across three seats, lying out as if that is something very boring for him to listen to tonight."

Other MPs were heard telling him to "sit up" and "sit up straight".

Anna Turley, Labour MP for Redcar, tweeted: "The physical embodiment of arrogance, entitlement, disrespect and contempt for our parliament."

A Liberal Democrat MP, Tom Brake, joked in the Commons: "Might it be possible to provide Jacob Rees-Mogg with a pillow as he seems to be struggling during this debate?"

While politicians reacted with anger, the Somerset MP's body language was met with mockery online and quickly became the inspiration for dozens of memes, some of which can be viewed below.
