EU travel: The best time to book a holiday to Spain, Italy, France and more as prices set to soar

Many people will have put off going on a holiday abroad over the past two years as they were unsure of what restrictions could be brought in that would hinder their holidays.

However, with the removal of most Covid-19 restrictions last Friday, people will be once again looking to the future to plan a much-needed break away.

Airlines have reported an increase in demand for flights over the past number of days, which will likely lead to an escalation in prices as the summer months approach.

But when is the best time to book a flight?

Passengers are encouraged to book their flights as soon as possible if they want to save money.

Booking tickets during the weekdays can also make a difference and allow you to get flights for lower prices.

Few people are usually searching for flights on a Tuesday and Wednesday, so this can sometimes lead to a dip in prices.

These days can be cheaper as they are low days for business travellers, and early morning flights could be more affordable and are less likely to be delayed.

It is always a good idea to book your flights before accommodation so you can move between a few days to find when the cheapest flights are.

However, passengers are warned that flights will increase in price during the summer months no matter what day you choose as the demand is high.

You can also set alerts on tracker sites such as Google Flights, Hopper, or Skyscanner, which will alert you with deals for your route.

This can be done by setting the route and travel dates you require and turning on the alerts to receive a message when prices drop.

You should then purchase the flights immediately when they reach your desired threshold.

Setting multiple alerts and being flexible with your travel dates can save you even more money.

By being flexible about where you want to go, your accommodation, airlines, flight times and dates, you will allow yourself to get the best deals possible.

Also, being open to a last-minute trip could see you finding a bargain as plenty of package holidays will sell discount deals if they have not filled required quotas on bookings for Summer and Easter time holiday resorts.

If you and your family are flexible, last-minute deals could save you a lot of money.
