The best that Brittany has to offer

Nolwenn Leroy

The 28-year-old's album Bretonne has been France's No 1 seller since January. It contains several songs in the traditional Breton language. All of a sudden it is being reported that, in France at least, Brittany is suddenly so hot right now.

Galettes

Not the crepes (although they are rather fabulous too) but the plain buttery biscuits. In particular, les galettes de pont-aven. The nice blue tin alone is worth the ferry ride.

The Breton top

Fashion is, as we know, fickle. To recap: the Breton was seen as a staple, then became high fashion, then went a bit passe; but thanks to this new Breton buzz the classic top is on an upward style trajectory once more.

Pommeau

The 70s are a "look" again this summer. Which means that retro drinks have the edge at the cooler bank holiday barbecues. Serving Pommeau – a Breton aperitif made from sweet cider and apple brandy – will earn you extra kudos.
