The best schools in Bristol based on A Level results last year

Badminton School has been named the best in Bristol based on A Level results.

The Reach data unit reports figures released last week show how students performed in their exams in 2019.

The outstanding students in the Bristol area were the girls at Badminton, a boarding school on Westbury Road, Westbury-on-Trym.

Pupils at the 162-year-old establishment achieved an average grade of A- in their A Levels, with 58.3 per cent gaining at least AAB.

The next best-performing school was Queen Elizabeth's Hospital, where pupils also achieved an average grade of A-, but with 41.1 per cent gaining an AAB.

In third, fourth and fifth place were Redmaids' High School, Colston's School and Clifton College - an average grade of B+ was achieved by pupils at each institution.

The statistics also reveal how much progress was made by pupils between their GCSEs and A Levels, according to the data unit.

Schools that are performing in line with the average will have a score of zero, while those with pupils who are significantly progressing will have a positive number as their score.

Clifton High School was the best in the Bristol area last year for ‘adding value’, with a score of 0.5.

That was followed by Queen Elizabeth's Hospital (0.31), South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (0.31) and Bristol Free School (0.3).
