The best remedies to beat hay fever as pollen bomb to hit Scotland this weekend

With hay fever sufferers being warned of high pollen counts over the weekend in Scotland, we thought we'd take a look at ways to try and beat the symptoms.

Whether you have a severe allergy or just a small sniffle now and again, these home remedies could help you.

Forecasters are predicting that more settled weather conditions will bring a high to very high risk of pollen affecting much of the country from Thursday and into the weekend.

The Met Office predicts a medium pollen count on Friday, but high on both Saturday and Sunday across most of Scotland.

According to the Met Office 10 million people in the UK suffer from pollen allergies.

So if you are one of them who suffer from any symptoms - congestion, runny nose, itchy eyes or throat - then maybe some of these will help you. And if in doubt anti-histamines will have to be taken.

Omega - 3

A diet rich in omega-3 is one way to help stave off symptoms. Eating mackerel or sardines could be beneficial if eaten regularly.

Garlic

Another well know what to battle the symptoms according to the Met Office is eating garlic. Pollen and dust cause inflammation and your body produces histamine.

Garlic is a good source of anti-histamine which can help fight the chemical and reduce the effect of hay fever.

Honey

A teaspoon of honey each day can help your body build a natural defence against pollen. It could just be an old wives tale, but it's worth a try.

Dry your clothes indoors

During the summer months it could be advisable to dry your clothes indoors instead of on the line outside if you suffer from hay fever. Pollen is likely to stick to clothes and can cause problems.

Wash your hair

Washing your hair everyday can help with pollen transfer as well to stop the build up onto your bed sheets at well.
