The best reactions from around the world to those Prince Charles birthday portraits

Official royal portraits have become steadily more informal over the years, but the recently-released Prince Charles birthday photos might be the most relaxed yet.

Clarence House released two official photos to celebrate the future King of England's birthday, both taken by photographer Chris Jackson, who has worked closely with the royals for 15 years. He's clearly struck up a good rapport, allowing him to capture them off-guard, in their meme-worthy element.

After the photos were released the social media reactions ranged from full ensemble commentary (courtesy of journalist Elizabeth Holmes and her So Many Thoughts Instagram account, which breaks down everything the royals are wearing) to frequent royal reactionary Gary Janetti's Instagram post comparing the shot to a Kardashian family portrait. In this case, English royalty beat the (unofficial) American royals hands down.

Here's our best Twitter and Instagram reactions to the two official birthday portraits.

Many people commented on the uncanny resemblance between Prince Louis and a young Kate Middleton. Others decided the latest addition to the royal family was the new Prince of memes - giving his older brother a run for his money.

Even though Princess Charlotte didn't release the signature wave, her fans turned out in support on Twitter.

Some of them wondered whether she already has a classic capsule wardrobe (smock dress, knee-high socks). Hey - when it works, it works.

Then there was journalist Elizabeth Holmes, who did a deep dive into the candid shot in a particularly detailed Instagram story.

But mostly, the photos made everyone realize the royals are like any other family trying to take a photo together - battling to make sure everyone is looking at the camera at the same time, kids included.

Your move, Kardashians.
