'The best player on the park!' - Nottingham Forest fans take some solace in West Ham loanee Sam Byram

Nottingham Forest fans were left utterly disappointed last night as Sheffield Wednesday all but brought an end to their Championship play-off dreams.

Three goals in 20 minutes after the break saw what looked a positive first half at Hillsborough count for nothing as the Reds sank to a heavy defeat in South Yorkshire.

Martin O'Neill's team news ahead of kick-off left many Forest fans expecting an exciting performance with the return of Sam Byram and Luke Steele to the starting eleven.

Highly rated teenager Arvin Appiah was also handed his first start for the Reds after a number of impressive performances for the club's Under-23s side.

While Appiah's performance left many Forest supporters feeling sorry for the youngster, who at times looked ineffective in Garibaldi, the return of West Ham loanee Byram saw him back at his brilliant best - with some Reds fans even calling for O'Neill to pin the 25-year-old down to a permanent deal.

On loan until the end of the season, Byram was perhaps rushed back with Tendayi Darikwa missing through injury but nobody would have guessed it with the former Leeds United man the best of a frustrating bunch at Hillsborough.
