The best play from the NFL season opener was a 63-yard punt

On a night where the Packers and Bears combined to score just 13 points, and quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Mitchell Trubisky both posted a sub-30 QBR, you can make a solid argument that Green Bay Packers punter JK Scott was the MVP of the NFL 100 season opener.

The Packers selected the former Alabama star in the fifth-round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and Scott finished his rookie year with a middle-of-the-pack punting average of 44.7 yards.

On Thursday at Soldier Field, however, Scott was elite. He pinned the Bears inside their own 15-yard line on three separate occasions, and booted two 63-yard bombs – including a clutch kick in the final two minutes that sailed from his own 16 to the Bears’ 13.

A slow motion replay of Scott’s full extension on the kick was a thing of beauty.

Tasked with executing a game-winning drive in 93 seconds from their own red zone, Trubisky and the Bears gained just two-yards and went four-and-out to close the game.
