The best places to watch the Great Manchester Run 2019

May has turned out to be a big sporting month for Manchester what with Manchester City's Premier League victory parade taking place on Monday and the Great Manchester Run this weekend.

Taking to the streets this Sunday May 19, the Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run expects to see a massive turn out of around 30,000 runners and thousands of spectators cheering on the devoted athletes or fun runners.

Whether you're watching friends, family, or just getting involved for the thrill of it, here are the best spots to watch both the 10k and half marathon races in this year's Great Manchester Run.

Best vantage points for both races

Chepstow Street, Great Bridgewater Street or Albion Street near Deansgate Locks are good vantage points for both the half marathon and 10k.

Or you can head out to the 10k halfway area near Old Trafford stadium (at 10 miles/4k).

Best vantage points for the half marathon

There's no spectator viewing on the Mancunian Way used for the half marathon, but there are plenty of viewing spots on Ashton Old Road, Sir Alan Turing Way and at the Etihad Stadium.

Charity cheering points

You could stand by one of the six Charity Cheering Points, which will definitely have supporters urging runners on. There are Cancer Research UK points after one and 13 miles on the half marathon route, and 1k and 9k on the 10k course.

You’ll also see supporters from The Christie at 11 miles/7k; the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust at 9.5 miles/3k; Macmillan at 12 miles/2k; and Alzheimer’s Society will be cheering at 8 miles/9k.

DJ cheer zones

If you're looking to be in the midst of the action, then there's also cheer points with DJs as part of the 18.24m ‘wall of sound’ at the University of Manchester Go Zone at 9 miles/2k, and Manchester Metropolitan University at 11.5miles/7k.

Big screen showing

A big screen will be showing footage from 9am on Sunday near the finish line on Deansgate.

Deansgate is is also where you'll find Event Village, where you can pick up free samples, food treats and special offers.
