The best place to stay in the UK has officially been named - and it's just an hour and a half from Manchester

The best hotel to stay at in the country has been named...

And it's just over an hour and a half drive from Manchester.

The Sunday Times has revealed its 100 best British hotels - and Callow Hall in Derbyshire tops the table.

The hotel, set in acres of countryside 90 minutes outside Manchester, is the best place to stay in the UK, according to the prestigious list, reports Birmingham Live.

Set within 35-acres of meadows and woodlands, Callow Hall is just outside the market town of Ashbourne.

It's described in the list as 'relaxed, riotously chic and satisfyingly eco-friendly'.

Susan d'Arcy, the Hotels and Spa Editor of The Times and The Sunday Times, explained why they found Callow Hall to be such an impressive establishment.

"Off the beaten track, our Hotel of the Year is also a foretaste of how hospitality must change.

"It's a sophisticated, future-focused bolt hole and although it only opened on September 1, one couple has already returned for a second visit while others have extended their stays or re-booked."

Callow Hall has 15 rooms in its main house, two treehouses for guests to stay in and 11 woodland hives.

On the living roof there's the glass Garden Room restaurant and the hotel also offers complimentary yoga classes to guests in the wellness centre.

Callow Hall is the flagship hotel of Wildhive, which was founded by Ed Burrows and Charles Randall five years ago.

Their aim is to create a better work/life balance for staff in their hotels, situated in lesser-known, nature-surrounded locations.

Ed said: "This is an extremely exciting and proud moment for us. Having opened this year under challenging circumstances faced by the whole industry, we are honoured to have been awarded Hotel of the Year by the Sunday Times.

"The incredible team is what makes Callow Hall so special - they bring the magic and that home-from-home warmth that we want our guests to feel when they stay with us.

"This award only spurs us on as we work to create exceptional memories for our guests that celebrate our spectacular location in rural Derbyshire."

Charles added: "We are absolutely delighted to have received this award and it’s a real recognition of our vision for Callow Hall and every single one of the team who has helped us bring it to life.

"Being named 'Hotel of the Year' gives us great enthusiasm to grow and develop the team further, and comes as we announce our Be…Hive programme for all Wildhive employees.

"This programme will see their hard work recognised and their development with us prioritised.

"This is just the start for us and we’re excited for what's ahead."
