The best performing North East schools when it comes to GCSE results have been revealled.
Tyneside schools including Newcastle High School for Girls, Kings Priory School and Emmanuel College made it into the top ten for last year.
Schools such as Gosforth Academy and Sacred Heart Catholic High School made it onto the list of the schools with the best progress for pupils.
New updated figures released on Thursday reveal exactly how well students at schools up and down the country did in their GCSE exams last year.
Across the North East, the average Attainment 8 score a student taking the exams received ranged from a 46.9 in Gateshead to a 41.5 in Middlesbrough.
That’s compared to a nationwide average score of 44.7, with 60% of students passing English and Maths with a grade between nine and four.
Red House School in Stockton-on-Tees, saw its pupils get an average score of 65 - with 100% passing English and Maths.
No other school in our area performed this well.
Durham High School for Girls was the next best performing, with its pupils achieving an average Attainment 8 score of 64.2 (and 96% of them passing English and Maths).
That was followed by Newcastle High School for Girls (average score of 59.2), Emmanuel College (average score of 57.5), and All Saints Academy (average score of 56.9).
