The best of Steven Gerrard at Liverpool and remembering Stuart Scott

1) To mark Steven Gerrard’s decision to leave Liverpool here’s a compilation of his best goals from 1998-2014; and then the full monty: 171 of them; the Sky documentary A Year In My Life; his full interview with LFC TV and, from 2013, a more unusual chat with a 10-year-old fan; that night in Istanbul and the same remembered in documentary form, while finally: Hayley Masterson’s daughters can’t help but giggle as she reacts to the news.

2) In memory of the great broadcaster Stuart Scott – the man behind ‘boo-yah!’ – who made such a mark in sports coverage but tragically died from cancer this week, here’s his acceptance speech for the Jimmy V Perseverance Award, ESPN’s tribute to him and Rich Eisen’s NFL match review using Scott catchphrases. Here he is describing his first show; pulling tricks on Maria Sharapova and Roger Federer and interviewing Michael Jordan.

3) ‘Action’ from the 2005 Varsity darts match.

4) More commentary as RJ Choppy packs his basketball calls with wrestling catchphrases.

5) Staged but sweet, Chicago Bulls mascot Benny the Bull intervenes on the kiss cam ... While entirely unstaged, this Georgia player faceplants a hedge.

6) A Red Bull ad admittedly, but one that rather pleasingly combines a variety of sports with some intriguing Heath Robinson machinery.

Our favourites from last week’s blog

1) Who would be a goalkeeper?

2) Paul O’Connell puts the fear of God into a glass of water. And while we’re on the subject …

3) Olympiakos supporters getting a little excited … at the water polo.

4) Christmas already feels an age ago but for some light relief from the January Blues, here’s some festive cheer from Grimsby FC and from Geraint Thomas.

5) Repetitive strain injury? 36,000 keepy-uppies.

6) Is it going in? Swiss side FC Aarau, they say no.
