The best looks from the Vanity Fair Oscars after party 2022

After the adrenaline-filled Oscars ceremony – whether you watched it in the Dolby Theatre or on the screen at Elton John’s viewing party – there is only one place the great and good of Hollywood want to end up: the Vanity Fair after party.

The storied event has been running since 1994 — and, ever since, the glittering outfits worn by celebrities have outshone even Academy Awards’ main event. Red carpet rules are abandoned as the most famous faces in the world aim to outshine each other.

This year was certainly no different as a crowd ranging from Joan Collins to the Euphoria set, including Zendaya, Jacob Elordi and Hunter Schafer, all made their way into the party greeted by the magazine’s current editor Radhika Jones.

Some made striking pre-party outfit changes before arriving at the Wallis Annenberg Center in Beverly Hills. Timothée Chalamet shrugged off the blazer he wore topless to the ceremony to sport a denim and leather spliced biker jacket and jeans by Alexander McQueen. Serena Williams went from a full length, coral Gucci pleated gown to a micro metallic Versace dress, while Zoë Kravitz swapped a candy pink Saint Laurent column dress for a backless white, long sleeve frock from the same the house.

Others made their show-stopping first appearance of the night. Kim Kardashian wore the closing look from Balenciaga’s recent Autumn/Winter 2022 collection, which was a comment on the Ukraine war. Kardashian’s long-trained lyrca and fully gloved gown came in the same blue as the Ukraine flag. Stepsister and model Kendall Jenner also opted for a Balenciaga design — hers a dramatic black frock with a tulle splayed, upturned front.

Julia Fox (Getty Images)

Julia Fox — never one to shy from a statement — arrived in a frightening leather dress complete with skeletal hand strangling her, and claimed her black clutch was made with real human hair. Meanwhile, Billy Porter – who was a notable absentee from the Academy’s red carpet – looked similarly gothic in a sequin black cape with feather trim.

But it was Dakota Johnson who easily stole the crown for best feather look, in her positively pluming Gucci frock from the Spring 22 collection. Dusty pink with a hefty train and fluffy sleeves, she looked every inch a Seventies superstar.
