The best infrared photography from around the world

A new competition has been launched for infrared photographers – those who capture light that is not visible to the human eye.

Contest organisers Kolari Vision want to raise the profile of infrared photography, which they believe is not taken seriously in either the art or professional world.

There were nearly 3,000 entries in the first year of the contest with a variety of landscape, urban and portrait photographs that were all captured in “another light".

Organisers hailed the global appeal of the contest; winners hail from the US, UK, India, Russia, France, Italy, Serbia, Germany, Austria, Egypt and Hong Kong.

Here The Independent has compiled the winning photographs and the runners up in the gallery above.
