The best Indian takeaway in Liverpool but you can only get it on Saturdays: Hannah's review

If you want to order a tasty Indian takeaway in Liverpool you’re never going to be far from a decent lamb bhuna or chicken tikka masala.

But sometimes the best places aren’t always as obvious.

For years I’ve visited my local takeaway and never strayed too far from my doorstep. More recently, however, I discovered Hannah and I haven’t looked back.

There are so many great things about Hannah’s takeaway - the portion size, the quality and the price being just a few practical things I love about it.

In fact, the portion sizes are so generous I’ve found my Saturday night takeaway turning into a Sunday night feast too.

Hannah’s has been a restaurant in Whitchurch, Shropshire, for decades but luckily scousers don’t need to travel that far to get their hands on the delicious food.

Every Saturday, owners Mr and Mrs Gohar set up their little known shop in Liverpool.

The hidden gem, that serves home cooked Indian food, can be found at the indoor market area in Greatie, off Great Homer Street.

There is usually a selection of popular curries available such as chicken tikka, tandoori, masala and madras, alongside starters and sides including khan, onion bhajis and pakora.

Be sure to get there early - Hannah is known to sell out as many Greatie regulars have become Hannah regulars too.

However, customers can also ring Hannah’s and place an order for a specific curry or banquet to pick up on Saturday.

It’s not unheard of to see people picking up huge bags, that they will freeze and eat at later dates.

I’m told the chef has more than 40 years experience and it shows.

Mr and Mrs Gohar can do no wrong with their curries. I have tried plenty over the last couple of months and each one is as tasty as the last.

My personal favourite is the fish tikka and onion bhaji, which surprises me as appetizers and side dishes have never been the highlight of my meal, until now.

Hannah’s serves chunky fillets of fish (usually salmon) marinated in fresh herbs and spices - the finishing touch is that it’s cooked over charcoal.

Cooked to perfection - the fish stays juicy on the inside but slightly tougher on the outside as the marination turned almost into a thin crust.

The bhajis are perfectly crispy on the outside and are spicier than your average bhaji.

If you’re into curry, head to Hannah and bring restaurant quality food home to the comfort of your own couch or dining room.
