The Mediterranean city of Dubrovnik isn’t the biggest city in Croatia—it’s not even in the top ten—but in the high summer season, its population swells thanks to tourists seeking beautiful, medieval architecture (some of which was featured in Game of Thrones), a warm climate and plenty of action out on the Adriatic sea.

Visitors to Dubrovnik have a variety of options for lodging, including a healthy choice of vacation rentals and hostels, but most of those staying in the city will chose to stay in one of the thousands of hotel rooms scattered across the Old Town and just outside of the city walls.

Here are some of the best hotels in Dubrovnik:

Villa Orsula

Situated on the east banks of the Adriatic within a five-minute walk of the historic Old Town, Villa Orsula is among the more luxurious options for those looking for a hotel in Dubrovnik. Guests at Villa Orsula are treated to sea-facing rooms, beautifully manicured gardens and a private restaurant, but perhaps the best part about this property is the private beach just steps away from the terrace. And with only 13 rooms, this villa caterers to a very exclusive crowd.

Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik

For those looking for a touch of familiarity while on the road, the Hilton Imperial provides all of the comfort of a chain hotel plus the vibrancy of Mediterranean culture. Built in 1895, the Imperial is also just steps away from the western entrance to the city’s Old Town, so it’s easy to dip into the fray for dinner or a guided tour and then back out to the relative calm. And of course you can redeem Hilton Honors points for your stay.

St. Joseph’s Boutique Hotel

There’s no beach access at this boutique hotel, but for many that shouldn’t matter. Located in the heart of Dubrovnik’s old town, St. Joseph’s Boutique Hotel is located in a 400-year-old townhouse—complete with ancient stone walls and views overlooking the winding city streets. The rooms are finely appointed and equipped with rain showers, kitchenettes and a complimentary breakfast.

Hotel Dubrovnik Palace

“Room to spread out” is the key phrase at the Hotel Dubrovnik Palace. Situated at the tip of the Lapad Peninsula just north of the city’s Old Town, Hotel Dubrovnik Palace seems more like a traditional Western resort than many of the properties nearby. It’s got 308 rooms, four bars, three restaurants and four pools—plus a private beach next door. But for those with families, or simply less of a desire to spend time outside of the hotel, Hotel Dubrovnik Palace may be the perfect solution.
