Liverpool trio Virgil Van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah were named in the top five in the men's world player category at The Best Fifa Football Awards on Monday.
Van Dijk was the favourite to win the award after claiming the equivalent Uefa honour last month, but finished second to Lionel Messi ahead of team-mates Salah and Mane in a top five dominated by Reds.
Manager Jurgen Klopp was also named coach of the year, beating Premier League rival Pep Guardiola to the gong, at the glittering ceremony in Milan following Liverpool's Uefa Champions League triumph in Madrid in June.
Tottenham star Harry Kane snuck into the top 10 in the men's category after helping Spurs to the Champions League final and captaining England to the Uefa Nations League finals in Portugal.
The awards were decided by a collection of votes, coming from the captains and managers of each international team, plus designated members of the media from each country.
Tottenham star Heung-min Son, who was voting in his capacity as South Korea captain, voted Spurs team-mate Kane as the leading men's player, though Kane, voting as England skipper, did not return the favour.
The Spurs forward instead put Messi top of the pile, with Van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo making up his top three. Ronaldo, who finished third, did not turn up at the ceremony and left Messi off his voting slip, while Messi placed Ronaldo second behind Mane.
