The 2023 Epic Games holiday sale is here, and there’s a lot of pretty sweet deals to go around on video games of all kinds. Remedy Games is offering discounts on all its hit games, including the recently-released Alan Wake 2. NIS America dropped the price of several games, including the hit Trails RPG series, Square Enix’s underrated gem of a sequel to The World Ends With You, Death Stranding, and a whole lot more.
The Epic Games holiday sale lasts until Jan. 10, 2024, so you’ve got a bit of time to plan what you’d like to get, and Epic is running its usual coupon deal as well, where you can get 33 percent off most games over $15.
Alan Wake 2 - $39.99
Leading the pack is Alan Wake 2, fresh off its best narrative of 2023 award win and just two months out from release. You can get Remedy’s masterpiece of a mind bender for $39.99, which is $10 off its usual price.
You can also get the deluxe edition for $55.99. This one comes with a few charms for Saga and Alan, along with the expansion pass, which will – eventually – include two full expansions.
Alan Wake Remastered - $9.89
If you still need to catch up on the original Alan Wake, you can get the remastered version – which includes both of its expansions – for $9.89. You technically don’t need to play it to understand Alan Wake 2, but it does help with some important background knowledge.
Epic is running a special where you can get Alan Wake Remastered for free if you buy Alan Wake 2 while the sale lasts, so bear that in mind if you’re keen on both games.
Control: Ultimate Edition - $19.99
Control: Ultimate Edition, which comes with – you guessed it – Remedy’s two expansions for the base game, is going for $19.99. It’s not quite as steep a discount as you usually see on Steam, but it’s also not on sale on Steam right now. Control is tangentially connected to Alan Wake as part of the Remedyverse, though it tells a separate story, of a woman delving into the dark, sinister secrets of a government agency with the ability to hear stories from objects – including some stories she shouldn’t know.
Assassin's Creed Mirage - $34.99
Ubisoft’s “back to basics” Assassin’s Creed game is down to $34.99, just a few months after launching. The spinoff-slash-prequel follows Basim of Valhalla game in medieval Baghdad at the height of the Caliphate’s splendor, and it swaps the recent RPG approach for a stealth experience instead.
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD Remix - $19.99
The clunkily-named Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD Remix is down to $19.99, which is a pretty sweet deal. This collection includes Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 2, Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, and Chain of Memories, with cinematic versions of 358/2 Days and Re:Coded. That’s almost every Kingdom Hearts game except Dream Drop Distance and KH 3 and its prequel chapter.
NEO The World Ends With You - $29.99
NEO TWEWY is something of an underrated gem, a long-awaited sequel that went under the radar when it launched in 2021. You play as Rindo, an average guy with a below-average ability to interact with others, as he and his friends – plus some random strangers – get drawn into a twisted alternate reality where their lives and souls are at stake in an even more twisted game. It’s an innovative game, dripping with style and with some of the best localization in the genre that makes every interaction shine. You can grab it for $29.99.
Payday 3 - $29.99
Payday 3‘s rough launch issues are behind it now, and if you’re keen to see what the next generation of this hit action game series is all about, you can grab it for $29.99. Starbreeze plans on updating Payday 3 with quite a few fresh additions in the coming months, so there’s plenty to look forward to.
Red Dead Redemption 2 - $19.79
Pretty much every sale sees Red Dead Redemption 2 discounted to $19.79, and this one is no different. Rockstar’s historical open-world game follows a band of misfits in Gilded Age America as they try and find a place for themselves on the edge of civilization – and make life a little worse for the railroad magnates and other scoundrels who thrive on oppression.
Star Wars Jedi Survivor - $34.99
Star Wars Jedi Survivor takes Cal Kestis on a bigger, more complex, and more rewarding journey across the galaxy, as his doomed fight against the Galactic Empire continues. He’s older, sadder, and wiser now, and Respawn leans further into Cal’s relationships with his fellow rebels in a surprisingly thoughtful narrative. You can see for yourself for $34.99.
Dead Space remake - $23.99
If survival horror is more your thing, you can grab this year’s Dead Space remake for one of its lowest-ever prices: $23.99. Your hellish adventure aboard the U.S.S. Ishimura is faithfully recreated in lavish, terrifying detail from the original game, and there’s even a surprise twist at the end – assuming you make it that far.
Dying Light 2 Winter's Tale Edition - $35.99
Winter’s Tale functions as a definitive edition of Dying Light 2, at least for now, with all the game’s current DLC bundled in, and it’s going for $35.99. Dying Light 2‘s story might have veered off course from what Techland promised, but the parkour and city itself are superb.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero - $29.99
Trails from Zero is a pretty special kind of RPG. Nihon Falcom specializes in creating lived-in worlds where everyone has a story, and you end up feeling just as invested in the NPC who runs the local shop as you do the main story. Trails from Zero does it even better than most of Falcom’s other games thanks to the more intimate setting, a city-state on the brink of invasion from its neighboring, warlike superpowers. You can check it out for yourself for $29.99.
Mortal Kombat 1 - $41.99
The Mortal Kombat reboot might’ve been snubbed at The Game Awards, but that’s no reflection on its quality. It’s smoother and slicker than ever – and more grisly, if that’s your thing – and even though the hammy story holds it back a bit, it’s still one of the top fighting games of the year. You can grab it for $41.99.
Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered - $35.99
Insomniac might have just released Spider-Man 2, but if you’ve yet to don the spidey suit for Peter’s first adventure, you can do so at a discount – $35.99. This version includes all the visual overhauls from the PS5 remaster, but bear in mind that it doesn’t come with Miles Morales.
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales - $29.99
If Miles is the one you want, you can get his standalone adventure for $29.99.
Death Stranding: Director's Cut - $29.99
While we wait for Death Stranding 2 news – which was notably absent at 2023’s Game Awards – you can grab the director’s cut of Death Stranding for $29.99. This expanded version includes new challenges and modes alongside the original game and even new ways of getting around.
