Of course you don’t need me to tell you how to do a ponytail. You’ve known since you were nine. You’ve known since you sat behind Anna in assembly, doing her hair with a silver bobble. You knew this summer, when you were panicking about being underdressed for a black-tie wedding. And you knew that night that the ponytail had transformed your dress into a sort of statement.
