The best dressed 'attendees' from Royal Ascot's first virtual races

If there's one thing we've learned over the last few months, it's that coronavirus can only hold us back so much.

Yes, physical events may have been prohibited, but instead, we've pivoted to harnessing the power of technology platforms Zoom and Instagram to fill the void.

This has never been more applicable than for the first-ever virtual Royal Ascot races, which has asked that its digital attendees don their Sunday best - including a hat of their choosing - and post them to Instagram in order to raise money for charity.

The money raised will be split four ways between The National Emergencies Trust Relief Fund, NHS Charities Together, The Care Workers Charity and the Berkshire Community Foundation, with Royal Ascot kicking off proceedings by donating a sum of £100,000.

The campaign, which Ascot organisers have called #StyledWithThanks, kicked off yesterday and has already seen a handful of stylish influencers set the bar high, including Louise Roe and Deborah Brett.

“In this unique year, our thoughts are with those that have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and of course the NHS and key workers who are playing such a heroic role," CEO of Ascot Racecourse, Guy Henderson, said. “We are marking this year’s Royal Meeting with our #StyledWithThanks initiative so that people can combine the enjoyment of participating in the event from their homes with their own thanks and contribution to the fundraising campaign.”

Prizes will be given for the most Elegant, Original, and Uplifting outfits, with a panel of fashion industry judges selecting the winners. Among the handful of stellar prizes are tickets to next year's Royal Ascot.

The competition runs from until Saturday June 20 and to take part all you need to do is post an image to Instagram or Twitter using the hashtags #StyledWithThanks and #RoyalAscot.
