'The best decision' - Chelsea fans in agreement after major Lucas Digne transfer update emerges

The January transfer window is well underway and Chelsea fans will be eager to see their side strengthen as they look to get back into the Premier League title race.

Romelu Lukaku, Saul Niguez and Marcus Bettinelli were the only signings made in the summer but it was enough to embed Thomas Tuchel's side in the title race during the first half of the season.

A rocky patch of form, however, has seen them drop 10 points behind Manchester City in the race and strengthening in January may be their only hope of catching the reigning champions.

With Ben Chilwell likely to be sidelined for the remainder of the season, a new left-back is thought to be high on Tuchel's wishlist and, after a falling out with manager Rafa Benitez, Everton's Lucas Digne was reportedly targeted.

However, it has now been reported by Sky Sports' Rob Dorsett that Chelsea had not pursued their initial interest and that Digne is now set to join Aston Villa.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Tuchel is more interested in bringing Emerson Palmieri back from his current loan with Lyon.

The decision not to pursue the Digne deal is one that has gone down well with Chelsea fans as well.

Here is the best of the response.

@Luke_Smith201 said: "We don't need Digne. We'd have Chilwell, Alonso, Emerson and Digne. We don't need him. We only need a loan or bring back Emerson."

@COYB_Jake said: "Let ‘em have him. Let's just get Emerson and Dest."

@Dan4Miami said: "Im glad Chelsea are sticking to their guns with the loan option."

@Havertzsmile said: "Good now get Emerson."

@Bogdybv1 said: "We move on, Tuchel doesn't want him so is not a loss."

@Rythrinx said: "I think that's the best decision, signing one more LB (unless on loan) will just give us more trouble to offload the ones already here. No one will buy them and they know we will be forced to loan them.."

@BaggedAgain said: "Fair enough it’s Tuchel’s decision."
