The best CS2 console commands for practicing grenades

Winning a game of Counter-Strike 2 often has more to do with your practice before, than your adaptation during the match itself. And there’s nothing more important to drill down than your utility usage. So spin up a private server with sv_cheats enabled, and unlock commands for unlimited grenades, visible throw trajectories, and instant round resets, to kick-start your practice sessions. Or use CS2’s built-in practice options to get started without ever opening the console

Instead of buying a smoke, throwing it once, and waiting out the round, you can test the same lineup a dozen times in a couple of minutes and see exactly where each one lands before you ever risk it in a real match.

Quick Summary

  • Enable sv_cheats 1 on a private/offline server
  • Use the commands sv_infinite_ammo 1 and sv_grenade_trajectory 1 for smoke practice
  • Make use of CS2’s built-in Map Guides to practice lineups in competitive games
  • Use the new options in the Practice menu to launch a grenade practice server without any commands

How to set up a CS2 server for grenade practice

To set up a CS2 server for smoke practice, first create an offline or private match in game:

  1. Click on Play → Practice
  2. Enable Grenade Camera, Infinite Ammo, and Infinite Warmup (+ Map Guides if you need them)
  3. Select the map you want to practice on
  4. Click Go to launch the server

This launches a private server with the warmup clock paused, giving you as much time as you want to practice grenades across the map. Plus, if you turned map guides on, markers will pop up on your screen to show you exactly where to stand and aim for some of the most common grenades.

How to use CS2’s built-in Map Guides in competitive

One of the biggest features Valve added to CS2 if the addition of Map Guides. Map Guides are built-in grenade lineups hat show you standing positions and aim points during non-Premier games. To use it press Escape during the first five rounds of a half, then select either an official Valve guide, or a Workshop guide you’ve subscribed to.

The markers then appear on-screen as you play, showing where to stand and aim for a given grenade. Since its built into the game, players can practice not only the lineups, but also the timings needed for successful execution of a utility setup. If you are playing competitive regularly, Map Guides can be some of the best things to deploy to develop your CS2 skills.

Plus, once the first five rounds are past, you can put your practice into use, getting live feedback on if you’ve actually memorized the lineups or not.
