The best burgers in Bristol according to our readers

We are not short of places to get a burger in Bristol, from the classic beef burger to exciting meat free options, there is plenty of choice.

But who is serving up the best patty in Bristol ? We asked our Facebook followers which of the city's many offerings they could not do without and the results were pretty clear.

These are our readers top Bristol burgers. It's enough to make your mouth water.

Asadao

Opening two years ago at the top of Colston Street this South American inspired restaurant has become a big it with burger lovers. The beef burgers are made from a blend of cuts from organic Devon farm Higher Hacknell and the mantra here is ‘pink and juicy. In October last year they also introduced a vegan offering which has been a big hit.

Our review: "Bristol is bursting with places serving burgers but this was as good any I’ve had."

if you're looking for a burger with a big personality this is it. As well as the option to build your own burger (perfect for fussy eaters) there are some unique items waiting to be tried at this Gloucester Road favourite

The Jolene, a double stacked burger with double helpings of cheese and bacon, topped with jalaenos or the Drop the Mc which looks suspiciously like a fast food favourite are just two highlights.

Hobgoblin

The Squealer burger, at Hobgoblin on Gloucester Road (Dan Regan/BristolLive)

This place has become know for their "dirty food" with their loaded fries one of Bristol's premier hangover cures.

In fact our readers love it so much it has been nominated for a Bristol Loves award.

This Gloucester Road pub has a huge number of burgers on the menu, from a vegan Thai spiced vegetable burger to a beef, chicken and Brie gluttonous mess.

You might not even need the fries if you get though all of that.

Honest Burger

Honest Burgers plant burger (Tom Canning)

The London chain's Bristol launch was highly anticipated. While admitting the burger market in Bristol was saturated the team behind the Clare Street restaurant said there would always be demand for really good burgers.

Last year they launched a vegan burger which they claimed would sizzle like meat. Made from peas, beetroot, cocnut oil and potato starch our meat-eating reviewer said it tasted as good as the real deal .

Where is it? 21 Clare Street, Bristol, BS1 1XA. Tel: 0117 2033648. www.honestburgers.co.uk

Oowee Vegan

We had quite a few people name Oowee as proprietors of  their favourite burger however, even more people named Oowee Vegan as their number one.

Our food reviewer Mark Taylor even said The Sneaky Clucker could pass for a real chicken burger (it's seitan) and the Classic Cheeseburger which is made with 'plant-based beef' is pretty popular too.

Where is it?  65 Baldwin St, Bristol BS1 1QZ. tel: 0117 280 0152 www.ooweediner.com

Squeezed

Squeezed's One Inch Punch burger (Natalie Brereton)

We couldn't write this list without mentioning Wapping wharf's Squeezed after it won the National Burger Awards 2019.

Not that it came as a surprise for anyone who has eaten there as this tiny restaurant at Cargo 2 packs a mighty (and meaty) punch.

In fact their winning burger is called the One Inch Punch, a ramen-inspired meaty treat made with a double beef patty, braised ox cheek, white miso and beef fat butter, cheese, mushroom duxelle and roast tomato. Although it wasn't actualy available at the time of the awards Awkward.

The Burger Joint

Burger Joint has celebrated its 10th anniversary (Mark Taylor)

If you want to know how to run a successful burger business then The Burger Joint would no doubt have the most useful advice, as they are now in their tenth year.

Much of The Burger Joint’s success over the past decade has been down to opening in the right place at the right time. It also helped that both the Whiteladies Road and North Street sites benefited from outdoor seating for the summer, which increases capacity.

Our reviewer said: "I always think the best test for any burger restaurant is one of the simpler options so I went for the 6oz prime beef burger in glazed brioche bun with American cheese, chilli sauce and Parmesan and truffle fries.

Inside the sweet, fluffy bun, the beef patty was charred and smoky from the chargrill, juicy and properly seasoned. There were also layers of crunchy lettuce, sliced tomato, red onion and gherkin.

The fries were crisp, covered in a flurry of grated Parmesan and boasted a strong truffle flavour. They were incredibly moreish.

Where is it?: 83 Whiteladies Road, BS8 2NT. Tel: 0117 329 0887. Also at 240 North Street, Southville (tel: 0117 329 2790)

Three Brothers

They sell hot dogs, sticky chicken wings, shakes, floats, sundaes and craft beer, but this semi-floating venue, formerly known as Spyglass, has made its name on a range of award-winning burgers such as the buttermilk chicken burger and the Triple Bro.

Where is it? Welsh Back, Harbourside, BS1 4SB. Tel: 0117 927 7050, www. threebrothersburgers.co.uk
