The best breakfast and brunch spots in Bury

You don't have to venture far in Bury to find yourself a great breakfast, whether you're after an artisan coffee or a builder's brew.

The borough is packed with everything from greasy spoons to health-conscious juice bars, and prices are far cheaper here than in Manchester city centre.

Below we've rounded up a few of our favourite spots in the area.

Are there any we've missed? Let us know on Twitter @CityLifeManc

Bloom Coffee Co., Bury

Bloom Coffee Co in Bury (Facebook - Bloom Coffee Co)

A specialty coffee house just around the corner from The Met, Bloom Coffee Co. has a menu inspired by those brunch masters across the globe - the Aussies.

You'll find all manner of breakfast items on sourdough toast, plus a breakfast roll that has us wanting to drive over to Bury immediately - pork and fennel sausage patty, sweet potato rosti, cheese, chilli jam and a fried egg.

Give it all to us right now.

Northern Crafthouse, Whitefield

Northern Crafthouse in Whitefield (Facebook - Northern Crafthouse)

Opened in 2016, Northern Crafthouse is a go-to spot for those craving a Pan-American style breakfast or brunch.

The brunch menu is a paean to all things cheesy, starchy, carb-ridden and meaty: buttermilk pancake tacos, rump steak with cheesy hash browns and a brunch burger.

Although, those who want to start the day with a bit more of a spring in their step can opt for avo toast, with mixed leaves and feta cheese.

The brunch menu is served on Saturday and Sunday from 10-12:30am.

All The Shapes, Prestwich

This beautiful, inviting café-bar has become a local favourite since it opened in 2015.

Brunches here are a darn sight more interesting than your normal bacon and eggs, although there is plenty of that here too.

You can expect Reuben sandwiches, brioche French toast, warm naan sandwiches with aloo ghobi, wild mushrooms on toast, Moroccan flatbread, kedgeree, and green eggs.

Breakfast dish prices range from £2.20 all the way to £8.40.

Slattery's, Whitefield

Slattery in Prestwich (Manchester Evening News)

The chocolate shop and café in Whitefield is famous for its extravagant cakes and near-impossible chocolate challenge.

But it also has a more savoury side, with breakfasts and lunches served up in the Masons dining room upstairs.

Served until 11.30am, breakfast dishes include giant bacon butties, English breakfasts, and layered granola.

There's also lots of bakery items, naturally, including cinnamon toast, cheesy crumpets and potato cakes.

Tre Ciccio, Ramsbottom

Despite recent financial uncertainties surrounding this small group of Italian restaurant, there's no denying that Tre Ciccio's breakfast offering is tempting.

Open from 10am, seven days a week, it's am authentically Italian breakfast menu of bread, eggs and pastries.

The 'dirty Neapolitan' breakfast includes crispy pancetta, fennel sausage, homemade beans, eggs, portobello mushrooms, roast potatoes and toasted Altamura bread.

They also do bottomless tea and coffee with any brunch item.

The Trackside, Bury

Keeping things simple, and most importantly, cheap, is The Trackside at the Bury Bolton Street Station.

Though primarily a pub, The Trackside also serves a no-fuss menu of breakfast items, including small or large full English breakfasts (£5 for small, £7 for large, £5.50 for veggie).

You can also grab a sausage/bacon/egg/any combo of the three in a bloomer or muffin for around £2.50.

All while watching the trains sliding in and out of view.

Automatic, Bury

Pancake stacks and super-charged bagels both make the cut at Automatic, a modern restaurant inside Bury's theatre and arts centre The Met.

It's a safe spot for veggies and the health-conscious, with Buddha owls and smashed avo on the menu, but that doesn't mean you can't get your hands on a Bloody Mary or a huge pancake tower topped with bacon and syrup.

Prices are reasonable too - the biggest thing on the menu is the 'large brunch' (a Full English but with double of everything), and even that's only £8.95.

Pres, Prestwich

Pres (Pres)

Doing it for the health-conscious is Pres, a stylish juice bar with a huge breakfast menu to boot.

You'll find pancakes, Benedicts, soups, toasties and wraps, all with a superfood twist - such as the Pres Benedict made with sweet potato rosti and beetroot hollandaise.

It's a haven for vegans and gluten intolerant diners, but even the most carnivorous of eaters will find something they'll enjoy.

There's also all that cold pressed juice, and the Pres juice cleanse - but we'll be sticking to the turkey bacon pancakes for now.
