The best body serums

Smoothies: our pick of the best body serums. Photograph: PR

Once the nicer weather comes, body moisturising is just another way to sweat. Everybody knows that the thicker, richer creams offer the most benefits, but they also melt on warm skin, like a Mr Whippy in the clammy hands of a child, and make your clothes stick. I’ve ignored body serums till now – I thought they’d feel thin and pointless – but these days they’re really as good as the formulas for your face. Skincare for the body is all the rage. The very sophisticated ones, such as Bioeffect Body Intensive Serum (£80, bioeffect.co.uk), promise the skin-smoothing equivalent of road resurfacing and tackle cellulite, crepey décolletages and slack knees. But I love serums most for the way they feel – they’re light and easily absorbed but incredibly potent, with nourishing ingredients. And they’re quick: a few applications of Clarins’ Renew-Plus Body Serum (£40, clarins.co.uk) has already turned me into velvet.
