The best and worst case scenarios for Leeds United ahead of Swansea City game

Leeds United can take a step closer to Premier League football this weekend when they take on Swansea City.

The game comes just three days after the Whites put five past Michael O’Neill’s Stoke City to regain their place at the top of the Championship and maintain a six-point gap over third-placed Brentford.

It leaves Leeds needing, at the most, seven points from their four remaining Championship games, depending on how results go over the next couple of weeks.

So, in what position could Leeds find themselves in after the next round of league games, here are the best and worst-case scenarios for the Whites.

Beren Cross on Leeds United's win over Stoke

Best case scenario

In an ideal world, Leeds would pick up all three points against Swansea, with both West Bromwich Albion and Brentford both suffering defeat.

The Baggies take on Blackburn while the Bees are against Derby County.

Should that happen, and Fulham fail to win against Cardiff, then Leeds would need just one more point from their remaining three games to become a Premier League side.

It would also increase Leeds’ gap at the top of the table to four points meaning that two more wins would secure the title for the Whites.

Worst case scenario

However, things could also look very different for Marcelo Bielsa’s side at the end of the weekend.

A loss for the Whites against Swansea, coupled with wins for West Brom, Brentford and Fulham would pile the pressure back on Leeds in the final three games.

The Baggies would leapfrog the Whites at the top of the table, and the gap to third would be cut to just one point.

It would mean that any more slip-ups could see Leeds’ dream of returning to the Premier League this season disappear.

Although things would still be in the team’s own hands, with seven points still being enough to see them return to the promised land.
