Colagero Palermo, principal clarinettist of the prestigious Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, one of the world's great symphonic ensembles, returns to Bangkok to play with the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra at the "Bernstein's Mambo" concert at Mahidol University's Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya campus, on Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 4pm. Palermo will be playing Brahms' captivating Clarinet Sonata No.1 Op 120 in a fascinating arrangement by Luciano Berio. Few can match the palette of colours and emotional moods of Palermo, who is considered one of the most world's important clarinettists.
Under the baton of maestro Alfonso Scarano, the orchestra will take the audience on a journey exploring the spirit of Latin sounds in a performance of Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from the internationally beloved musical West Side Story.
The programme also includes the rhythmic Symphony In Three Movements by the great 20th century Russian master Igor Stravinsky, which exudes the drama and anxiety of the Second World War.
Scarano's imaginative interpretations of Stravinsky will take the audience's breath away. His love for precision and rhythmic nuance will make for great listening.
