The Benners Boys send cheeky response to complaints over 4am 'Benidorm' fireworks

A group of men who held a huge fireworks display to mark their annual lads' trip to Benidorm have responded to the criticism.

We how families in Tyldesley were livid after the huge display woke children and pets shortly before 4am on Thursday.

But far from being apologetic about their antics, the men, nicknamed 'The Benners Boys' appear to be rubbing salt into the wounds.

Fireworks set off in Tyldesley

Responding to comments on the Tyldesley Live Facebook page, where many residents complained about the disruption, one of the group said: "Thanks for all your comments.

"It hasn't gone unnoticed but next year, us, as benners-boys would like to see the community pull together and give us donations.

"Much appreciated, The Bennersboys."

Some residents thought the noise, coming from the sky above Astley Street Park and Tyldesley Rugby Club, was gunshots.

One mum told the M.E.N: "It's great that they have tradition, but not at 3.45 am when the majority of Tyldesley are getting up to go to work the following morning.

"An apology and a bit of respect would be nice."

It' is understood the display has become something of a tradition, taking place for the last eight years.

Residents say it used to happen at Shakerley Common, but this year seems to have come from the park or rugby club.

Dozens of people commented on the story on the M.E.N's Facebook page.

Many said it was 'just harmless fun', including Julie Lou, who wrote: "Once a year? Jeez, if it was every night I could understand the moaning! People are allowed to have fun!"

Charlotte Kenvyn added: "They do it once a year! Let them enjoy the little tradition they've got going."

When contacted by the M.E.N, the person who posted the response said he was in Benidorm, but that he wasn't the one who set the fireworks off.
